Soft, smooth skin starts in the shower. This Kessa-style exfoliating mitt is a traditional Korean body scrub glove — a textured plant-fiber mitt that grips dull surface skin better than a loofah and leaves arms, legs, and body feeling polished.
What a Kessa mitt is:
A Kessa (also called a Korean exfoliating mitt or kessa glove) is a reusable body scrub mitt made from textured plant-based viscose fiber. You use it on wet skin in the bath or shower after you’ve soaked a few minutes — not with soap first, and not dry like a dry brush. Once damp, the fabric grips and buffs away loose surface skin.
What it can do:
Used regularly, it helps lift dull, dry surface skin so lotion absorbs better, softens rough patches, and can help with the look and feel of keratosis pilaris (KP) — those small, rough bumps on the backs of the arms sometimes called “chicken skin.” It also works well to buff away faded self-tanner and to prep skin before a new tan. It is a body-care tool, not a medical treatment, and results vary.
A note from our shop: Keratosis pilaris is common on the backs of the arms. We use this mitt about once a week to keep those bumps in check. When we first started, there were a lot of them; with steady weekly use, only a few show up here and there now and then.
Scent: Not scented
Materials: Textured plant-based viscose fiber (100% vegan) with elastic wrist and hanging loop; lightweight and fast-drying
Size: One mitt — generously sized to fit most adult hands
How to use:
Soften skin first with warm water or steam in the shower or tub for several minutes — water only, no oil or cleanser yet. Dampen the mitt and wring it out. Slip it on, step out of the direct stream so the mitt can grip, and work in small circles or short strokes, one area at a time. Start light and add pressure only if your skin is comfortable. Focus on rough spots like arms, elbows, knees, and legs. You may see loose skin roll off, or you may simply feel softer — both are normal. Rinse, then cleanse and moisturize as usual while skin is still slightly damp. For a deep spa-style scrub, many people use it a few times a month; for KP maintenance, once a week works well if your skin stays happy. Do not use on the face, broken skin, sunburn, rashes, or freshly shaved/waxed areas. After use, hand-wash the mitt and hang it by the loop to dry completely. Replace when the texture wears smooth.
